Where is “North” California?

Where, What and Who Exactly is North California?

Going North to “Go west”

California, the last bastion of wild and unclaimed riches in the westward expansion of the country still evokes a splendid mystery for those living in and visiting the state.

Manifest Destiny isn’t as overtly rampant today as it was at the turn of the century, and much of the “wild frontier” has been lost to suburbs, temples of commerce and silicon factories. At least compared to the wild and untamed lands that still exist within our borders.

For us, the “North” California border starts in Ukiah and goes up to the top of the state. There people drive a little slower, we smile at each other when we pass on the street, and small talk with your neighbors is an everyday treat. “Northern” California by contrast is south of Ukiah in wine country, the bay area and the silicon valley below. It’s a different pace of life, and while it’s beautiful in its own right, it’s just different.

We celebrate the virtues and bounty of “North” California in the Humboldt Passport. It’s an opportunity to highlight the experiences that make our neck of the woods so special through the lens of food and unique Humboldt offerings (yes that includes cannabis and cannabis farms).

When you support the Humboldt Passport you’re supporting the farmers, producers and small business owners who contribute to this places unique sense of independence, pride, and craftsmanship.

So come visit, and stay a little while. The trees have something to tell you.

If you’re still thinking about getting a Humboldt Passport for this summer, you’re in luck, but our print run will soon be running out. Purchase yours today.
